Newark Academy - Closure Following Fire

Lessons will not continue as planned

Lesson's at the London road site of Newark Academy will not go ahead on ahead as planned on Monday

Following the fire at the Grove Leisure Centre site on Friday evening, Newark Academy has been advised to close the school to students on Monday to allow the Fire Service and Contractors to secure the site.

Andy Seymour, Head of School at Newark Academy commented:

"Following consultation with Nottinghamshire Fire Service and the building contractors who are working on the decommissioning of the Leisure Centre building,  Newark Academy will be closed to students on Monday to allow the site of the fire to be fully secured.

This decision has been made to ensure the safety of our students accessing the site and has not been taken lightly.  We are optimistic that the school will be open again on Tuesday to all year groups. All school staff will return to work on Monday as normal to help prepare for reopening on Tuesday.

I can assure students and parents that there has been no damage to the Newark Academy buildings or grounds.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Nottinghamshire Fire Service teams who attended the fire and worked through the night to bring the situation under control."

The school will keep parents updated through the school website, twitter and text.
