A capital day for the Striders

Kath Scott looks back at a wonderful weekend

What a wonderful day in the capital we have had .

Athough the weather wasn't kind to the marathon runners with temperatures soaring , our seven Striders, four completing their first marathon produced fantastic performances. 

Leading Striders home in the sunshine was Simon Palmer in a super time of 3:38:55 followed by Nick Beveridge in a great time of 4:26: 09, Graham Welsh completing his first marathon in a time of 5:20:55, Tonya O' Leary also completing her first marathon in 5:25:38, with ninja Ann- Marie Davison in 5:40:07, Lesley Butlin finished in a time of 5: 42:10 and Lynne Boby in 5:49:40 completing our first timers line up.

Not all the excitement was in London ! Over in Thoresby Park there was a small orange army taking part in " The Longhorn

A trail race of various distances , let's start with the 10K 

Leading the way for Striders was the speedy Jess Gordon finishing in a time of 49:52 coming 4th overall and 2nd in her age category followed by Katie Gabbitas in 1:08:15 , Ruth Tall 1.10:00, Karen illsley 1.20:00, Kirsty Ballinger 1.22:55 and Tom Stimson 1:29: 44. 

In the half marathon event Emma Gilbert was first to finish in a time of 2:07:00 with Debbie Bavin finishing in 2:32 :00

Heather Green and Bernie Duvall ran and finished together in 2:48:35 followed by the duo of Paula Nichols completing her first HM and Sharon Self both finishing in 3:08:44.

While one brave Strider took on the marathon distance , Nick Harrison completed his first marathon distance in 5:36:36 .
