Chuter Ede at the County Finals

it’s not always the medals or trophies that you win, but the lessons and skills that you learn along the way which make you become better individuals and a team.

A very proud Amy Fell reports on a great afternoon of Netball;

Last night Chuter Ede School played in the county netball final at the Emmanuel School in West Bridgford. I think this is the 6th year in a row that the Chuter Ede team has reached this final.

There were 15 teams taking part in 3 groups of 5 (however one team did not show).

We won all the games in our group stage and automatically progressed to the semi final.

In the semi final we drew West Bridgford school, which after full time the score was 4-4. We had to play two lots of 2minute extra time, in the same netball rotation following our rotation sheets, meaning the same players played on court for 3 quarters  out of the 4 (in high5 netball you have to follow a strict squad rotation sheet after each half/end of game to allow all the children to rotate around all the positions). Unfortunately we were beaten 6-5.

In the 3rd/4th play off we faced Barnby Road, with them just edging ahead 3-2.

The four teams that reached the semi finals (Chuter Ede, Barnby Road, Fernwood of Nottingham and West Bridgford) have qualified for the regional finals on 16th June in Nottingham.

This is the 4th consecutive year that a Chuter Ede team has reached the regional finals.  Every year my team continue to amaze me and are clearly inspired by the team that has come before them.

Last night may not have gone our way in the semi final or play off, but my team played with strength, commitment and honesty, walking away with their heads held high.

Not only that, there were two lots of scouts there who commented numerous times on my individual players and my whole team on their netball skills and style of play. All of the team have been invited to trials for the academy process and development programme which is a huge achievement.

This programme really supports and develops netball skills and over the last two years, 7 Chuter Ede girls have been part of this, with 4 girls currently playing for the County under13 squad. Hopefully next year, some of my current team will follow in these footsteps after being scouted last night.
