End of season high for Amelia

Amelia Chrispin ar the National Schools Cross Country

Amelia Chrispin represented Nottinghamshire in the English Schools XC Championships at Temple Newsham in Leeds. She had qualified for the team due to her performance at the Notts County Schools XC in February. This was first year Amelia has been old enough to race at the English Schools and she was in the Junior Girls section

As the 350+ girls lined up on the start line the mercury was a balmy -1 and with the gusting wind felt more like -8. This along with the occasional flurry of snow added a new dimension to the race. The course was a two lap 3.1km, with two large hills on each. At the start of the race Amelia was in the top half of the field and running well. She ran a mature race picking her way through the field and working hard. She had a strong finish, passing other athletes all the way to the finish, crossing the line in a brilliant 56th place out of the 342 girls who managed to finish the course.

She was really pleased with her position, a great result considering she was racing the best athletes in the country, some of whom are up to 20 months older than her. A fantastic finish to great cross country season.
