Fantastic silver for the Pocket Rocket

More success for Newark AC at the County Championships

Yesterday (Saturday 6th Jan) Amelia raced in the combined Nottinghamshire and Debryshire AAA County Championships at Shipley Park, Heanor. The athletes raced together but would be separated into their respective counties at the end of the race. Amelia was racing  in the in the U13G category.

The venue was  extremely cold, very muddy and would be a really testing 3km 2 lap course incorporating two large hills.

After the first lap Amelia and a couple of the other athletes where clear of the rest of the field, with Amelia having a slender lead.  When we next saw the runners, on the final long hill, Amelia had slipped into second but was still working hard.  She pushed herself and crossed the line in 2nd place, going one better than last year.  Amelia told us, as she was having a well deserved hot chocolate,  it was the muddiest course she had ever raced on!

Shortly afterwards she was ecstatic to be presented with a well deserved silver medal.  This result means she has been selected to take on the best runners in the country, representing the Nottinghamshire County Team in the National  CAU Inter Counties XC Championships in March.
