Pocket Rocket wins again

Our champion ends the year on a high note

Wednesday saw Amelia Chrispin representing Worksop College in the Bassetlaw District Schools XC Championships. The races took place at Sherwood Pines and also included the Newark and Mansfield schools Districts.

Amelia's race was testing two lap 3km  course with a few hills thrown in. With all three districts running together the field was a large one and the competition was fierce, as the top 12 runners would qualify to represent each of their respective districts in the upcoming Nottinghamshire Schools Counties  XC in February.

The gun wen off in the Yr 8/9 girls race and after the usual elbows and barging the field started to string out a little. Amelia quickly took the lead on the first hill, as the race disappeared into the woods.  She was still in front as the runners came back into view and looked comfortable as she passed the start line and headed off for the 2nd and final lap.

Amelia was still leading in the final  stages of the race and sprinted the last part, crossing the line around 30 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. She was really pleased with her performance, as she was not only the Bassetlaw District Yr 8 and 9 Champion, but she had also beaten all the other athletes from the other two districts and is still only in Yr 8.
