Newark Striders news with Gratham Welsh

A couple of events to report on from Wednesday, starting with news of David Cross who was in Worcestershire for the Droitwich 10K race, which he completed in a time of 44:30. There was also a good turnout of Striders at Worksop that evening for round 4 of the Summer Series on a very nice course, just short of 5 miles. Leisa Pickles, Jacqui Jackson, Simon Roberts, Peter Davis, Lewis Hopkinson, Graham Welsh, Jess Gordon, Nick Beveridge, Debbie Bavin, Mark Turner, Andy Scott, Kath Scott, Mary Swindles, Bev Hancock, Jan Bailey, Philippa Clarke and Dan Arkwell all chose club over country.

There was plenty going on at Newstead Abbey on Friday night, where a high quality field assembled for the Newstead Abbey 5K Dash, a race which also serves as the Notts AAA 5K county championships. Adam Clarke 19:45, Stephen Tomlinson 24:31, Sarah Stuart 36:23 and Emma Ashwin 36:24 were competing in the Dash itself whilst Jan Bailey 16:29, Lewis Hopkinson 17:32, Dave Dews 20:26 and Peter Davis 21:57 were entered in the county champs as well as the Dash.  Lewis and Peter both won championship Gold in their respective age classifications. Jan was 10th place overall and County 5th in a fast race where the first 6 finishers completed the 5K in under 16 minutes, and he took championship Silver in the M35 age group. Meanwhile at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, Nick Harrison was running without his orange vest... and the rest of his clothes for that matter,  all in a good cause though, ‘baring all for the Polar Bears’ in a charity ¾ mile dash.

To Sunday and Anthea Moisey, Steven Padgett and Becky Clift were at Foremarke Hall, South Derbyshire for the ‘Brooksie’s Bash’ 10 mile trail run, racing over hills and stiles in aid of Derbyshire Mind. Becky & Steve 2:03:12 and Anthea 2:21:28. Meanwhile, closer to home there was a group at Collingham for the 5K Crawl and Canter, 13th place overall in 24:23 was Hannah Jackson, then Stephen Tomlinson, who ran a personalised version of the route in 26:56, David Cross 29:43, Clare Stainton 36:22 and Ann Clay 36:28.

Finally, news from late Sunday evening, Stacey Atkins has completed the gruelling Ironman event at Bolton. She covered the 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile cycle ride and marathon in 16:00:21. Congratulations on an amazing achievement.
