Pothole Watch

Matt has officially launched Pothole Watch 2: Man vs Hole - a campaign designed to call out the shocking state of our roads and make sure Newark, and the wider area, are impossible to ignore.
Let’s be honest, roads across the county are a joke!
Potholes, broken surfaces, unsafe crossings and cycle lanes that barely deserve the name. And when you look at it county-wide, Nottinghamshire is consistently worse than the areas around us.
There’s an old saying: the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
Right now, Newark’s roads are squeaking — but not loudly enough. That’s why we need to shout louder than everyone else.
This campaign isn’t about quietly hoping someone else reports a problem. If a pothole isn’t reported, it won’t get fixed, it really is that simple. And even if you think someone already has reported it, report it again. Volume matters. Numbers matter. Noise matters.
This isn’t just about motorists
Pothole Watch 2 isn’t just for drivers.
-
Pedestrians, wheelchair users and parents with pushchairs crossing damaged roads
-
Cyclists using unsafe, broken cycle lanes
-
Motorcyclists, commuters and residents
We’ve seen potholes exactly where people cross the road and cycle lanes that are dangerous, not just inconvenient. These are safety issues, and everyone who uses roads, pavements or cycle lanes has a right, and a role, to report them.
