After our Christmas break we return to the Flying Circus on Sunday January 26th for our first session of 2020. In the month that would have seen his 73rd birthday we present, in full and on vinyl, David Bowie's breakthrough album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars. Despite several false starts - a mid-sixties phase as an Anthony Newley soundalike. A no.1 single in 1969 with Space Oddity, the failure to immediately follow-up nearly consigned him to one-hot-wonder status - by 1971, Bowie had released Hunky Dory which started to put him back on track but it was the controversial appearance on Top of the Pops, performing the single lifted from 1972's Ziggy Stardust, Star Man, which catapulted him into the national consciousness and made sure that Bowie never left the public gaze for a further thirty plus years.
