2 males have been arrested

A four-year-old boy has sadly lost his life after a collision between an off-road bike and a car.

Emergency services were called to Churchill Drive, Newark, at 6pm yesterday (Sunday 30th August) following reports of a crash.

The boy, who was a passenger on the off-road bike, was declared dead at the scene despite the best efforts of paramedics.

A 24-year-old man, who was riding on the same bike, suffered serious injuries and has been taken to hospital.

He has also been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The driver of the car remained at the scene and gave an account to police.

Investigations revealed the off-road bike had moments earlier been seen travelling in convoy with a second bike, whose rider left the scene prior to officers' arrival.

Following further inquiries, a 32-year-old man was arrested today (31 August) on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Officers are urging anyone with any other information, or relevant dashcam, mobile phone, CCTV or doorbell camera footage, to contact them.

Detective Inspector Jamie Moore, of Nottinghamshire Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the boy's loved ones at this incredibly distressing time.

"They are being supported by specialist family liaison officers and kept informed about the investigation.

"As we learn to understand exactly what happened, I'd urge anyone who can assist with information or footage to contact police without delay."
