£500 up-for-grabs for local good causes

Local good causes registered with Newark and Sherwood Community Lottery have a chance to win £500 as part of the Newark and Sherwood Community Lottery raffle!

The raffle draw, launched by Newark and Sherwood District Council, will take place every six months with the first draw scheduled for Thursday 7th April 2022 at 6pm via Facebook Live on the District Council Facebook page.

Local Good Causes must be registered with Newark and Sherwood Community Lottery in order to be entered in to the draw.

Raffle funds are generated by players of Newark and Sherwood Community Lottery who opted to donate the income from their ticket sale to ‘Newark and Sherwood Community Lottery Central Fund’, rather than one particular good cause.

The event will be live streamed on the District Council’s Facebook page and at the first raffle draw, good causes will be selected at random, each winning £500 to contribute back to the local Good Cause.

Each ticket is £1 and players have a 50-to-one chance of winning one of the prizes, which range from the jackpot to free tickets.

As well as 60p going to good causes, 20p goes to the prize fund, and the rest is for running costs and VAT.

There are no set up costs or admin fees to register as a Good Cause. You just fill in a simple online form and have your very own customisable lottery page set up for them.

Councillor David Lloyd, Leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “Recent months, more than ever, have proven the vital role that charities, voluntary and community groups play in supporting people, communities and shaping places.

“The Newark and Sherwood Community Lottery enables charities to raise funds while ensuring financial support for a sector that is closest to our communities and their needs. The addition of the raffle is another exciting possibility we can raise vital funds for these groups.

“I encourage anyone part of a good cause in the district to sign up to the Community Lottery for free today and take advantage of the rewards on offer.”

Since its launch, the Newark and Sherwood Community Lottery is set to raise more than £20,000 in its first year for good causes with more than 50 local groups signed up.

To register as a good cause with Newark and Sherwood Community Lottery and to take part in the raffle, apply online before Thursday 7 April 2022 here: https://www.newarkandsherwoodlottery.co.uk/good-causes
