529 FPNs issued in first month of District Council’s partnership with WISE

Newark and Sherwood District Council’s partnership with Waste Investigations, Support and Enforcement (WISE) is well underway with 529 fixed penalty notices being issued during the first month.

The aim of the one-year pilot partnership is to crack down on the perpetrators of environmental crimes, including dog fouling, fly tipping and littering, and to deter others from doing the same. The scheme has significantly increased the number of enforcement officers in order to achieve this.

Known problem areas are being patrolled by officers from WISE 12 hours a day, seven days a week in a bid to leave no stone unturned. This robust enforcement programme is already proving successful with 522 FPNs issued for littering and 7 FPNs issued for dog fouling.

After reviewing street-cleansing and foot traffic data, requests and complaints, the District Council increased the number of dog waste bins and litter bins across the district in a bid to deter individuals from committing environmental crimes, and keep our communities cleaner, safer and greener.

The message of this program is clear, don’t do it and we won’t be after you.

Councillor David Lloyd, Leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “We are just as committed as ever to tackling environmental crime and maintaining our beautiful district. We are clamping down on offenders and will continue to do so by significantly building on our current enforcement resources in this area and issuing the rightly deserved fines. Tackling environmental crimes such as littering, dog fouling, and graffiti remains a key priority for us.”
