A Huge Success

Armed Forces Day hailed a success

Armed Forces Day 2017 has been hailed a huge success by Councillor and organiser Keith Girling

The event on Sunday 25th June in Newark Market place started with a traditional parade, followed by the raising of the Armed Forces flag ahead of leading into a two minutes silence for those that had lost their lives in the recent tragedies across the UK.

The event was then marked by Newark Town Mayor Councillor Rita Crowe.

Several hundred people attended the parade and remained in the market place for the afternoon festivities, which included live music from 'Man Bites Dog' and "The Moonshiners". Boat rigging displays were provided by the Sea Cadets. Face painting, balloon modelling and military vehicles all helped provide entertainment for the family.

Councillor Girling said "I am once again impressed with the support that Newark always provides to the armed forces and that he was impressed with the army and sea cadets, that we were privileged to have the Navy's Fleet Air Arm attend, basically they are the Top Guns of the British forces. We were also very privileged to have the Lord Lieutenant representing Her Majesty the Queen and Major Pauline Murray-Knight MBE as the serving soldier taking the salute. She had just received her MBE a couple of days prior to the parade”

Councillor Girling also gave his thanks to the organising committee for their to commitment to another successful event.

The event concluded with live music by 'Swing Nouveau' in Newark Castle grounds later Sunday evening.
