EXCLUSIVE: Newark Town Hall used as location for BBC Children In Need music video

Radio Newark can exclusively reveal that Newark Town Hall has been used for filming a BBC Children In Need music video, starring actor Shaun Dooley.

The music video features Shaun Dooley performing his cover of the Taylor Swift song  'Never Grow Up' and was filmed on Saturday, inside the 18th Century Ballroom of our town hall. It comes as part of the BBC Children In Need: Got It Covered project, an album featuring critically acclaimed actors such as David Tennant and Olivia Colman CBE.

Shaun was supported by the Grimethorpe Colliery Band, who have previously performed at the FIFA World Cup, BAFTA Awards, BBC Proms, Eurovision and the London 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony.

Taylor Swift has been supportive of the track, tweeting praise to her 85 million followers and even showing up to surprise Shaun to listen to him perform her song.

Shaun said: "We are in 2019 and there's no way that in Great Britain we should have a charity that takes care of our children.

"It's a crying shame that we have this charity (Children In Need) but we do have it, and therefore I want to raise as much money as possible for it because my kids are my everything, my total life. So I want to give back and help other kids if I can.

"Me and my wife have a motto which is if you can do something good for somebody else, then you should do it."

Newark Town Hall kindly offered the location to Shaun and his team for free after they saw pictures online and fell in love.

Shaun said: "It's my first time in Newark and I was driving in and thinking, wow that's a nice location. I think more should be filmed here. Maybe we should get a series set here. Newark's now on my radar!"

Children In Need is a charity which supports the lives of disadvantaged young people and children throughout the UK. A 90 minute documentary showing the process of making the album will be aired on BBC One before the annual Children In Need show.

Shaun's track will be released Friday November 1, along with the rest of the album.

Newark Town Hall is situated in Newark Market Place, and is available for events. More information can be found at https://www.newark.gov.uk/General-Information.aspx
