Newark set to benefit from major improvements to one of the town’s key routes, after funding secured for the resurfacing.
Thanks to the lobbying of local Conservative County Councillors, residents in Newark are set to benefit from major improvements to one of the town’s key routes, after £50,000 in funding was successfully secured for the resurfacing of London Road.
The investment will fund the resurfacing of approximately 1,000m² of London Road’s road surface, addressing concerns raised by local residents and improving safety for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians alike.
The funding has been secured following sustained lobbying efforts by Conservative County Cllr Sam Smith of Newark East, Cllr Keith Girling (Newark West) and Cllr Johno Lee (Balderton), who have worked together to press Nottinghamshire County Council’s Highways Department to prioritise the scheme.
Conservative County Councillor Sam Smith (Newark East) said: "I’m absolutely delighted we’ve been able to secure this £50,000 investment for London Road following persistent lobbying. This resurfacing work will help tackle road safety issues that residents have rightly raised with us and make the road safer for everyone who uses it. Delivering real improvements to our local infrastructure remains a top priority."
Conservative County Councillor Keith Girling (Newark West) added: "London Road is a vital route through Newark and ensuring it is properly maintained is essential for our community. This funding will allow for meaningful repairs that improve everyday journeys for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. We’ll continue working closely with highways officers to ensure the works are carried out as quickly as possible."
Conservative County Councillor Johno Lee (Balderton) said: "This is a positive step forward for Newark and Balderton residents who regularly use London Road. By working together, we’ve been able to secure the investment needed to improve safety and road quality. We are now pushing for confirmation of the works timetable and will keep residents updated."
Exact dates for the resurfacing works are yet to be confirmed, but councillors are continuing to press for the improvements to be delivered at the earliest opportunity.
Further updates will be shared with residents by the Councillors once the programme of works has been finalised.
