Newark and Sherwood Community Lottery, a grand way to support your community!

Residents in Newark and Sherwood can support their local community today while also being in with a chance of winning weekly cash prizes up to the £25,000 jackpot in the Newark and Sherwood community lottery!

On 1 September 2021 the lottery is also launching it's national offer where residents who enter before 30 October 2021 will also be in with the chance of winning £1,000 of John Lewis vouchers.

The Newark and Sherwood Community Lottery is a lottery just for local residents. It’s a fun way to help local good causes without giving up precious time. Tickets are £1 in a weekly draw which allows residents to choose exactly which local group they would like their money to go to.

From each £1 ticket purchased through the lottery, 60p goes to local good causes. Another 20% goes to the prize fund, and the rest is for running costs and VAT.

Players have a 50 to one chance of winning one of the prizes, which range from the £25,000 jackpot to three extra tickets.

Since its launch the Newark and Sherwood Community Lottery is set to raise more than £26,700 per year for local charities and so far, more than 50 local groups have signed up.

Councillor Tim Wendels, chairman of Newark and Sherwood District Council’s homes and communities committee, said: “Recent months, more than ever, have proven the vital role that charities, voluntary and community groups play in supporting people, communities and shaping places.

“This lottery is a means of enabling charities to raise funds and to develop an income whilst ensuring financial support for a sector that is closest to our communities and their needs."

“Importantly, we are also ensuring that all proper processes are in place and that this lottery mitigates as many risks of problem gambling as possible. Hopefully, this gives people an option that is therefore both secure for them whilst also being dedicated to raising money for good causes”.

The draw for the John Lewis £1,000 vouchers is on the 30 October and the results will be announced at 8pm on the lottery website.
