Palace Theatre prepares for Pantomime fun!

With the summer holidays drawing to a close, the Palace Theatre Newark is turning its attention to its Christmas pantomime, Aladdin. Over the weekend of the 15th and 16th of September, Newark will have its chance to meet the cast for the first time and to audition to join them on stage as part of the junior chorus.

On Saturday 15th, the cast will be in town to see the sights and to bring a dose of pantomime excitement to Newark. After a photocall at the theatre, they will be out and about around the market square from 11.30 to spread some Aladdin magic and to meet shoppers.

Carys Coulton-Jones, Business Manager for Heritage, Culture and Visitors, said “we love our September pantomime weekend. It’s great for us to welcome the cast – both newcomers and returners – to the theatre and to Newark; it gives them a flavour of where they’ll be spending their Christmas and we start to get to know them a bit better”.

On Sunday 16th, budding young performers can apply to be part of the show’s Junior Chorus as the Palace hosts open auditions. Two teams of children aged between 9 and 16 will be chosen to perform across the Aladdin run, appearing on stage alongside the professional cast. Registration for auditions takes place from 9.30-10am at the Palace, with more information available on the panto producer’s website, imaginetheatre.co.uk.

Carys continued, “hosting auditions back to back with the launch really turns the whole team’s attention towards pantomime. We had over 100 children audition last year and seeing the queue of excited faces outside the theatre on a Sunday morning was fantastic, so we’re hoping for at least as good a turn out this year!”

Aladdin runs from 7th – 31st December, with tickets available from palacenewark.com or from the Palace’s Box Office on 01636 655 755.
