Trio Arrested Following Firearms Incident

Armed Police were seen in Newark last night

Three men have been arrested and are this morning in Police custody following a report of a disturbance in Newark  yesterday evening  (Monday 16 March 2020) just before 6.20pm

Nottinghamshire Police received a report that a man ran into the One Stop shop on Bowbridge Road after being chased by a group of men, one of whom was believed to have a gun.

Two men then entered the store before a member of staff called the police. The men left a short time later making off in a car.

Police swiftly responded to the report and spotted a vehicle believed to be involved in the incident.

After it came to a stop officers arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

Following further enquiries two other men, aged 33 and 23, were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

The Police helicopter assisted with searches following the report and was seen circling for long periods of time over Newark.

No-one was hurt during the incident.
