Warwick Lane needs your help!

Radio Newark chat to Newark Advertiser's Sports Reporter Warwick Lane as he tells us all about #WarwicksWarriors

Warwick tells us what’s happened since he popped in to see Mick & Tony on Radio Newark Sport earlier this summer, listen here -

The past year and a half has been among the most turbulent in my life, but I'm determined not to let it get me down or change who I am as a person.

In April 2017 I was shocked to be diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia after feeling run down and low on energy for a few weeks.  Four rounds of chemotherapy followed and in September I left hospital hopeful that cancer was a chapter of my life I could put behind me.

This year I was getting fit and healthy, and was getting ready to take part in the Newark Half Marathon to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

However my life was turned upside down once again after the doctors found the leukaemia cells were back in my blood following a routine blood test in July.

Now I face the prospect of more rounds of chemotherapy before radiotherapy and finally a bone marrow transplant.

It appears I am one of the fortunate people who has been told I have a match, but there will be a lot of patients who will not be so fortunate and I want to use this negative part of my life and create something positive from it and get as many people signed up to the bone marrow donors list as possible.

Last week I launched a campaign with the Anthony Nolan charity to enlist as many potential lifesavers as I can.

Over the next few weeks I'm hoping to get people involved to become one of #WarwicksWarriors to take an incredibly selfless act.

Personally I have a special connection with all of the sports teams and individuals in the town, and I am hoping they can help make this as successful as possible.

Thanks to my family and friends I've managed to spread the word at the Newark Half Marathon, where people signed up to the cause and hundreds of fliers were handed out.

The most important thing for me is to keep the momentum going, and it would be great to have the people of Newark behind me.

People aged between 16 and 30 should visit www.anthonynolan.org, while people aged up to 55 can join the list at www.dkms.org.uk
