Work progressing well for Severn Trent’s £60 million project in Newark

Severn Trent’s multi-million pound investment in Newark continues to make good progress as work starts on Clark Avenue next week.

The major £60 million project will see the complete overhaul of the waste and water network in the Nottinghamshire town in order to both protect people and homes and businesses from flooding and also to ‘future proof’ the water supply.

Tim Sawyer, programme engineer for Severn Trent, says: “Work is progressing really well in Newark, we’re working with the community, and the locals are making us feel very welcome.”

“As part of our commitment to improve the water supply in the town, we have already completed works on Ash Road, we are currently working on Bellmond Close and we’re going to start work on Clark Avenue next week. Some of our water pipes in Newark are relatively old and, as the town expands, we have to improve our network of pipes to make sure we can keep up with the new buildings.

“This new section of work will see us replacing the pipes on Clarke Avenue and Shelton Avenue, and we hope the work on these streets will take no more than four weeks.”

In total, more than 12 miles of waste and water pipes will be replaced in Newark, with the work carried out by BNMAlliance.

The project, when completed, will see hundreds of homes protected in Newark from sewer flooding and will guarantee locals a reliable water supply for decades to come.

“To keep our team and other road users safe, we’ll be closing Clarke Avenue as we work.” said Tim. “A diversion will be in place using Elizabeth Road and Churchill Drive. We completely understand that there’s never a good time to close roads but, once complete, we’re sure everyone will be able to appreciate the benefits from this work.”

Severn Trent’s work in Newark is due to finish in 2020.
