Amelia at the front

Amelia Chrispin

On Saturday 27th May Amelia was competing in the Huub Junior Duathlon at the Darley Moor Circuit. This was to be an inaugural East Midlands vs West Midlands Regional event, but it was also a East Midlands Triathlon event, so series points were up for grabs.

Fortunately the  forecast thunderstorms did not materialise, although it was very, very warm. 10 minutes before the start of the race Amelia's front tyre exploded ! So ensued the frantic attempt to change Amelia's inner tube. We sprinted back up to the start line throwing both Amelia and her bike over the barriers and luckily she was just in time for the starters gun.

The first part of the race was a 1.6km run.  As usual the 100+ boys and girls set off at a really quick pace running off into the distance. We could not see much from our vantage point, but as the athletes came back into view with around 150m of the run to go Amelia was having a superb race and was leading the field!

She came into transition and left for the 4.7km two lap bike with the lead boys, the next nearest girl was 30 seconds behind.

Amelia worked hard on the bike, the stronger boys pulled away  from her, but she was still 1st placed girl when she entered transition for the final time.

The last part of the race was a 600m run. Amelia pushed for the finish line and crossed the line =8th overall and 1st place girl by 31 seconds. A great result 1st placed girl against athletes from two Triathlon Regions. On a secondary note the East Midlands beat the West Midlands in he overall event.
