Wot’s on this weekend
Depending on which weather forecast you look at by the time Saturday arrives we could be snowed in, frozen off, waterlogged or basking in sunshine.
Newark Town’s plastic pitch should beat all those eventuality’s as “the blues” look for revenge against visitors Blackstones. A four-three defeat in a pre-Christmas match, giving up a two goal lead in the process, was a very unlike Town performance but they remain five points off the top and comfortably in the play-off positions. (YMCA 3.00pm)
Newark & Sherwood United have only won on the road twice this season so a trip to league leaders Boston Town looks a tough task. “The Highwaymen” are on their best run of the season with only one defeat in their last six outings but having not played since 20th December let’s hope they can remember that form. (PE21 9LR 3.00pm)
Two local sides will try again to play their round of sixteen match in the Notts Senior Trophy, Collingham host Attenborough at Station Road while NSU Reserves have moved their home match against AC United to the artificial pitch at the William Robertson School in Wellingore.
There is a massive match for Newark Rugby Club as they visit Matlock in a Midlands Regional 2 match up between the divisions bottom two clubs. The Kelham Road side won their first match of the season in their last outing and that was enough for them to leapfrog this weekend’s opponents, but if you think the Newark wether forecast is bad take a look at what the Peak District is expected to get. We may have to wait a while longer for this battle to commence. (DE4 3RQ 2.45pm)
Kelham Road does have rugby this weekend with Newark 2 taking on second place Boston in the Midland Counties League (14.15 kick off) while twenty-four hours later Newark Women host Hull.
Southwell’s rugby players are also on their travels with a trip to second placed Market Rasen & Louth in the Midland Counties North Division.
Many of our runners will be descending on Bulwell Hall for the final round of the North Midlands Cross-Country League. The under eights kick off the event and seven races later the senior men end the day with a 10k, by which time it should be a mud bath.
Finally, hockey returns after its winter break with the Newark Ladies hosting North Notts (11.45) and the men entertaining Ramgarhia (13.30), both matches at the Magnus.
