Newark Flowserve

Tony Smith reports

IT WAS a miserable night, with temperatures plummeting and the rain swirling down under the glare of the floodlights, but there was once again a carnival atmosphere at Lowfields on Tuesday as Newark Flowserve turned on the style in the cup.

Barrow Town were once again the stooges, shipping a further five goals without reply to go with the six they had conceded in the league encounter at the weekend, but undoubtedly the star of the show was four-goal Tyrell Shannon-Lewis as he flaunted his remarkable talents on a stage he made his own.

With club staff anticipating a low turn-out on a wintry evening after Saturday’s bumper gate went past the 250-mark for the first time, a remarkable 164 people attended the Flowserve festival in which all the fun came after the break.

There were few changes to either side from the weekend’s encounter, and few chances either as the first half ended goalless. The entertainment was provided by the boisterous crowd, and their good-humoured encouragement produced a feast of goals after the break.

The second period was barely 30 seconds old when Shannon-Lewis sprinted onto the ball and fired a shot which cannoned off the right-hand post and nestled into the net with the Barrow keeper a mere spectator.

It was two on 61 minutes when Danny Meadows sent in a free-kick from the right and Sam Agar, the East Midlands Counties League’s leading marksman, leapt unchallenged to head home his 23rd of the campaign.

The Lowfields Barmy Army went through their playlist as Jammy Lloyd (“Only one Jammy Dodger”) had a 74th minute header cleared off the line and Shannon-Lewis was the first to react, and the man nicknamed ‘Tizer’ recorded his first hat-trick for the club two minutes later when an errant back pass handed him the landmark goal on a silver salver.

With six minutes left on the clock Tizer fizzed in his fourth to book Flowserve a place in the quarter-finals of the EMCL League Cup after Darryl Price neatly released Sam Agar down the left and he crossed for the star of the night to bring the curtain down with his 11th goal in six outings in front of his adoring public.

Newark Flowserve: 1 Yinka Adebowale; 2 Darryl Price; 3 Will Rawdon; 4 Tom Potts (captain); 5 Rhys Lewis; 6 Jammy Lloyd; 7 Sol Miller (Curtis Price 79mins); 8 Danny Meadows (Ryan Broxholme 84mins); 9 Sam Agar; 10 Tyrell Shannon-Lewis; 11 Elliot King (Liam Moran 59mins).

Attendance: 164.
