Jaguars Wheelchair Basketball Club

Roadtrip.....! Such a wonderful weekend in Scotland for Jags 2. James, Toby, Jamie, Karl and Liam started out on Saturday against St Mirren who had only been beaten twice all season - you could see why... A wonderful team performance - we were always in the game and played some really quick passing and moving basketball - in the end we lost out 72-42 but learned so much.

After a great evening we played Lothian Phoenix this morning - they started the day top of the league so this was going to be tough. We started hard and fast moving the ball around really accurately - by half time some great picking, tight defence and accurate shooting took us to a 32-22 lead!  With more hard defence and quick transition we pulled away in the 3rd quarter and then controlled the 4th quarter - the 57-35 was hugely deserved and maybe our best game all season. Massive win, hugely proud coach and the crowd (ours!) went wild.

With only 5 players this was a tremendous achievement - thanks to : Jamie - for some really strong, disciplined defence and a great shot in the second half (just pity a foul was called), James - for keeping tight on defence and his beautiful 2 pointer (crowd loved it!), Toby - for showing strength in the key and some great baskets, Karl - for controlling the ball, keeping Lothian's threat quiet at the top of the key and some very valuable baskets, and Liam - for playing some real team basketball, showing by example as Captain and leading our scoring - the final 3 pointer to finish the game was 'all net'!

One game left in the season next Saturday against the Mavericks - here's to another great one!

Starting with football, Newark Town’s recent dip in form which saw one victory from their last five outings was put to the test with a tricky day out in Derbyshire, in front of a crowd of 345 “the Blues" proved up to the task with a clean sheet aided by a single Harry Allcock strike giving them a happy journey home from Gresley.
