Newark football has lost one of its most iconic figures with the passing announced of Ted Harris.
Ted both played for and managed Newark Harriers before becoming one of the original committee members that resurrected the New Newark Youth League in the late 1990’s. His dual role of fixture secretary and registrar lasting for over twenty years as the NNYL progressed to being acclaimed as the best youth league in the county.
Many will remember the legendary presentation evenings, often attended by more than 500 children, with Ted compèring the event and ensuring everything ran to his trademark precision timing.
Away from football Ted was an active member of Newark Model Club and Bryan Porter paid tribute to him on behalf of the club calling him “a great bloke and a brilliant modeler.”
Our photo by kind permission shows Ted with his son Gary.
Gary is arranging a memorial afternoon for his father at the RAFA Club on the first Saturday of February.
