Silver for the Pocket Rocket

Amelia Chrispin gets a silver in the mud at Wollaton.

Proud dad Neil sent the following report to Radio Newark Sport;

Today (Saturday 27th January) Amelia travelled to Wollaton Park in Nottingham to represent Newark AC and race in the Midlands XC Championships 2018. The Midlands Athletic Assoc. covers clubs form Nottinghamshire all the way down to Avon, incorporating 10 counties on the way.

Amelia competed in the U13G race, which had a large field of 154 registered athletes. The course was tough 3km. This was broken down into 2 x laps, which on each lap had a long hill, a very muddy section of 300m and even a knee-high log to hurdle!

The start was very quick and Amelia found herself, coming to the top of the first hill, in around 40th position. She did not panic and continued to run well, working her way through the field. As she passed the first lap marker she managed to pull herself into 2nd place with 7 other athletes in very close attendance.

Her and the leader worked well on the 2nd lap, increasing the pace and pulled away from the rest of the field. With 150m to go the 1st and 2nd was settled, but the order still wasn’t. Amelia kept pushing herself and crossed the line in a fantastic 2nd place, the other girl just having a little more power in the finishing stages.

Amelia was really pleased presented with the 2nd place trophy shortly afterwards.
