January 17 highlights


5th, Newark Athletic Clubs Amber Owens has been awarded the Simpson Shield for sporting excellence by her school Sir Robert Pattinson Academy.

7th, Eighteen year old Matt Law was the coolest man at Kelham Road as he converted a last minute penalty to secure Newark a 18-17 points victory over promotion rivals Matlock.

7th, Anna Smith wins the gold medal (under 15's) at the Nottinghamshire XC Championships. Ellie White was silver medalist in the u20 women and Amelia Chrispin (u13 girls), Ben Smith (u15 boys) and Laura Bates (u17 women) took bronze in their age groups. The u17/u20 women took 2nd in the team competition.

7th, a record five Newark Rugby Club teenagers feature for Lcicesrer Tigers Academy, Chaz Dixon, Mason Coilam,  James Martin, Joe Hayes and Jonny Law.

8th, As a result of the excellent fund raising efforts by the Newark Rugby Club girls Victoria Lyon was presented with her brand new carbon fibre international standard single sculler. "heart of a Lyon" 

8th, Lincolnshire XC Championships, Linton Taylor 2nd in Seniors Race, Max Cawthra U17s Lincs gents XC champion, Amber Owens U17s Lincs ladies XC champion.

10th, Craig Roche and Steven Venables take over at Newark Flowserve.

14th, Amber Owens wins the under 17 North Midlands Cross Country Championship, running for Newark Athletic Club she completed the four leg series with three wins and a second place.

Amelia Chrispin wins gold in the under 13 girls and Max Cawthra gets silver in the under 17 boys.

 15th, 7 for 17 star Harry wainwright got his karting season off to a great start today, finishing 2nd,2nd & 3rd in his heats, unfortunately in the final he got spun out & slipped down to 13th. However he drove amazing to get back & finish 4th. Setting the fastest lap in the final & picking up the driver of the day award too.

20th, Laura Bates and Edward Buck get golds while there are silvers for Amber Owens and Max Cawthra as Newark AC runners have a good day at the Lincolnshire Schools Cross Country finals.

21st, Newark Men's hockey first team beat Derby by 4-2 as coach Paul Halfpenny is sent off for the first time in his managerial career. 

22nd, Amy Hunt wins the London 60 metre sprint at the London under 17 indoor games and is now ranked number one in the UK in this age group

22nd, Ed Howlett moves up to 2nd in the UK under 17 rankings after a strong finish in the Pisa International.

22nd, Jessica Reed wins the Girls 13 100m freestyle final at the 2017 Nottinghamshire ASA County Championships.

28th, Anna Smith is crowned Midlands Under 15's cross country champion, the member of Newark AC to achieve this honour in thirty years, Amber Owens gets 4th in the under 17 girls. The Newark AC  mens team finished 12th which is their best ever placing. 

31st Barnby Road Academy win the first Primary Schools Sports Association event of the year, indoor athletics.
