600 miles for the Striders

Newark Striders weekend of running

Newark Striders ran in excess of 600 miles this weekend, starting off with around 50 completing Parkrun on Saturday. Onto Sunday and there was a good turnout for distance training with many supporting the Newark Half Marathon ‘All Clubs’ run alongside friends from the other local running clubs.

In terms of racing, 4 Striders lined up in Keyworth for the Turkey Trot Half Marathon, rescheduled from December due to poor weather. Dave Dews was first home in a new personal best time of 1:44:07, next back in 1:44:30 was Dave Tilley pacing a time of 1:45 on behalf of the organisers, followed by Nick Beveridge 1:49:27 and Graham Welsh 1:59:28.

Meanwhile, Gary Tasker was participating in the inaugural Leicestershire Half Marathon, finishing in an excellent time of 1:35:59. Finally to Stamford, where 9 Striders took part in the Valentine’s 30K. The course was challenging and hilly, but that didn’t stop Jan Bailey who finished the 18.7 miles in 2:00:17. Second to cross the line in 2:23:42 was Simon Palmer and third was our first woman finisher Philippa Clarke 2:41:29. Next in orange was Jon Rawson 2:45:45, then Stacey Atkins and Becky Clift both 3:32:45, Heather Green and Jenny Palmer both 3:47:23 and Anthea Moisey 4:15:57. Well done everyone!
