Major Road Improvements Planned Across Newark This October

Several roads across Newark and the surrounding area are set to benefit from resurfacing and repair work throughout October, as Nottinghamshire County Council continues its £181.25 million highway maintenance programme.

Motorists and residents across Newark can expect further road improvement works throughout October as Nottinghamshire County Council continues its major investment in the county's highways.

Working alongside highways partner Via East Midlands, the council has announced a series of resurfacing, patching and preventative maintenance schemes aimed at improving road conditions ahead of winter.

In Newark, improvements are planned for Newstead Avenue, Chatsworth Road and Belvoir Crescent, while work will also take place on Woodhill Road in Collingham and Staythorpe Road in Staythorpe.

Machine-laid patching repairs are also scheduled for the A1133 Besthorpe Road in Collingham and the A6075 Tuxford Road/Cocking Hill in Boughton and Kirton.

The latest programme follows the completion of resurfacing work on Holme Lane and Langford Lane in Holme.

The council says that just six months into its £181.25 million Highway Capital Maintenance Programme, more improvement schemes have already been completed than during the whole of last year.

Councillor Bert Bingham, Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment at Nottinghamshire County Council, said:

“Six months into this year's Highway Capital Maintenance Programme, we have already delivered more improvement schemes than we completed during the whole of last year. That is a clear indication of both the scale of our investment and the progress being made on the ground.”

He added:

“Every scheme contributes to a safer and more resilient highway network, helping residents, businesses and local communities stay connected. I’d like to thank road users and residents for their continued patience while this work is carried out.”

Alongside the resurfacing programme, more than 200 sites across Nottinghamshire are benefiting from surface dressing and micro asphalt treatments designed to extend the lifespan of existing roads.

Surface dressing work has now finished for the season, while micro asphalt treatments will continue throughout October and November.

Motorists are advised that planned works may change depending on weather conditions and operational requirements.
