Newark Half Marathon Runners Raise £12,600 for Beaumond House Hospice Care

More than 30 runners have raised £12,600 for Beaumond House Hospice Care after completing the Newark Half Marathon, helping support vital care for patients and families across North Nottinghamshire.

The supporters completed the 13.1-mile challenge on Sunday 16 August, raising vital funds to help the local charity continue providing palliative and end-of-life care to patients and families across North Nottinghamshire.

Among those taking part was Mel Scott-Avis, who ran in memory of her husband's grandmother, Pat, who received care from Beaumond House during the final stages of her life.

Mel completed the course in two hours, raising £500 for the charity.

Reflecting on her achievement, Mel said:

“Running the half marathon was such a rewarding experience. It was definitely tough at points, but the atmosphere and support along the route really kept me going.

“I was so pleased to finish in two hours and incredibly proud to have raised £500 for Beaumond House in memory of Pat. It made the challenge feel especially meaningful and I’m very grateful to everyone who sponsored and supported me along the way.”

Also taking part was Hospice at Home team member Nicki Fenton, who tackled the race as part of her personal '5 before 55' challenge, completing five sporting events before her 55th birthday in December.

Despite the intense heat, Nicki finished in just over two hours, describing it as one of her proudest achievements.

Caroline Swindin, Head of Fundraising at Beaumond House Hospice Care, said:

“We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in the Newark Half Marathon in support of Beaumond House. To collectively raise more than £12,500 is absolutely brilliant and all our supporters did such an amazing job - it’s truly inspiring.”

The charity faces a £2.2 million funding gap this year, making community fundraising essential to maintaining its services.

Caroline added:

“Every penny raised goes towards providing compassionate care and support for patients and families when they need it most, meaning our local communities can live well and die well.”
