You can leave a message of condolence for HRH Prince Philip

The ceremonial royal funeral for HRH Prince Philip will be held at St George’s Chapel, in the grounds of Windsor Castle, at 3pm on Saturday, 17 April. The event will be televised.

At 3pm, a minute’s silence will be held nationwide, in memory of the duke. The country is currently in a period of national mourning, that will end on the day of the funeral.

In Nottinghamshire, a Service of Remembrance for The Duke of Edinburgh will be held at Southwell Minster on Friday afternoon.

This will be live streamed on the Southwell Minster YouTube page.

This service is by invitation-only due to COVID-19 restrictions and will include representatives of organisations throughout Nottinghamshire, and individuals who have a connection with the Duke himself, or one of the organisations he supported.

How to pay tribute

There are several ways Nottinghamshire residents can submit their messages of condolence:

• Leave a message online on the official Royal Family website. Note: People can offer to complete the national online book of condolence at the Royal Website on behalf of a relative or friend who cannot access online resources
• Call our customer services team (0300 500 8080) for assistance to complete the book of condolence or fill in the Contact Us form on our website
• Selected libraries are offering a service for messages of condolence. Please check with your local library

Charity Donations

There is no official arrangement for giving donations in memory of The Duke of Edinburgh. However, members of the public who wish to make a donation as a tribute to His Royal Highness are encouraged to give to a charity of their choosing or one of the charities or organisations which The Duke of Edinburgh supported in his public duties.

Over the course of his life, The Duke of Edinburgh was patron or president of some 992 organisations, with special interests in scientific and technological research and development, industry, the welfare of young people, conservation and the environment and the encouragement of sport.
