The sporting guide to the weekend

What’s on and where to go

🏑The match of the weekend could well take place at The Magnus, after last weekends amazing 5-5 draw the Newark Hockey Ladies Twos need to beat second bottom Nottingham Players in their final match of the season to achieve promotion from the Notts Senior Division. (10.30am)

That match is followed by the Ladies ones penultimate match of the campaign when champions Repton visit the Magnus. The Derbyshire school have won fifteen of their sixteen played scoring 103 goals along the way, by contrast Newark have scored 23. With head coach Sally Halfpenny once again expected to field a strong side in the first match there could be some tired legs by early afternoon. (12.00)

🏉Newark Rugby Club also play the champions when they travel to Derbyshire to take on Melbourne. With the head coach leaving and minds concentrated on the following weeks local derby it could be a long afternoon for our locals. (3.00pm)

🏉Southwell travel to Lincoln knowing that only a five point victory will give them any hope of survival, after Matlock’s victory at Newark the Peak District team need four points from four matches to ensure their safety and send the Minstermen down to division three, If Southwell get the victory and Matlock lose we all move on to the following week and you know what is!

⚽️After two years without a league defeat who would have thought it would be the home form that has cost Newark Flowserve a successive championship medal. So it’s probably a blessing “the works” only have two more matches to play at Lowfields, starting with a first ever visit by last seasons Leicestershire League Champions Ingles who incidentally beat Flowserve 1-0 in the reverse fixture earlier in the season. However with eight matches left and ground grading requirements to rare its head there is still a lot to play for and promotion is still in Flowserve hands, it’s getting complicated. (3.00pm)

⚽️ Flowserve Reserves are back in action after a couple of weeks off and find themselves second in the table four points behind the leaders with three matches in hand, a trip to Barrowby should yield three points.

⚽️Collingham play bottom club Thorne at Station Road as they look to cement a top four finish in the Central Midlands North for a third consecutive season, but with one eye on the following Wednesday’s Floodlit Cup Semi-final against Appleby Froddingham, expect Paul Hyde to shuffle his pack around. (3.00pm)

⚽️I do like this time of the year with the business end of a long winter campaign for our clubs, and it’s no different in youth football. Long Bennington have lead the way in the Notts Youth League under 18 division three all season and with six matches left to play they look certainties for the title with only Skegby likely to catch them. The Mansfield team have five matches in hand and are sixteen points behind. Guess where Long Bennington are tomorrow. (10.30am)

🎾 Newark Tennis Club mixed team play Caunton at London Road on Saturday while the Ladies travel to Woodthorpe for their match on Sunday morning.

🏉 Notts, Lincs & Derbyshire (NLD) take on Eastern Counties at Kelham Road on Sunday at under seventeen level. (2.30pm).
