A busy weekend for Amelia

Radio Newark SIX for 16 star Amelia Chrispin starred on both days of a busy weekend

On Saturday Amelia travelled to a very wet, drizzly, Wicksteed Park in Kettering to represent Newark AC in the 2nd round of the North Midlands XC League.

Amelia, competing in her first year of the U13G category  had to a testing, undulating, sodden 3km course  to contend with. She lined up at the start alongside the other eager athletes waiting for the starters gun. The opening pace, as expected, was really fast and competitive and after the first 800m Amelia was positioned in 11th position.

She worked hard and manged to pass some of her competitors and at the half way point of the race was in a well positioned 4th place.

She ran strongly to the finish, sprinting the last 300m of the race, and managed to cross the line in a superb 2nd place.

Less than 24hrs later Amelia was representing Newark AC again in the Notts mini XC League at the Grove in  Newark. This was the 3rd round in this particular competition and Amelia's least favourite venue of the series, due to the extremely flat course. The gun went off for the start of the 2km run with the usual jostling and jockeying for position. The run was to be two laps and after the first lap Amelia was in around 6th position with a group of of four other runners chasing the two leaders. With around 600m to go Amelia was positioned in 3rd place but was being chased hard. In the last 100m Amelia just ran out of energy and was just pipped for 3rd in a sprint finish finishing a hard earned 4th.
