Dave aqua planes to success

Monsoon Conditions at Skegness Brisca V8 Stockcar World Final

It was a very early start for Dave Sharp and the MDS Racing team of stock car 63 on Sunday morning as scrutineering at Skegness Raceway was scheduled to begin at 8am for all the entries to the Brisca V8 Stock Car World Final.

The rain started before the team had even left Newark and continued heavily all day.

Prior to the start of racing the track staff at Skegness Stadium tried in vain to pump the water off the track to remove some the largest of the puddles which enveloped the track especially on seaside turn but by the end of the parade lap for the World Championship race the water was as deep as ever.

The team had changed all four wheels and put full wet tyres on the car just after arrival at the track and due to the heavy rain conditions a full wet set up was kept on the car for every race.

Starting from the outside of grid row 13 in 26th place with spray and rain making horrendous driving conditions Dave decided that caution at the start of the 25 lap race was the best policy. This decision paid off as he managed to avoid being involved in and get around several of the early multi car pile ups on the seaside turn and back straights which caused total race stoppages in order to clear the track.

Keeping wide to avoid the ever-growing lakes on the track he made steady progress up the field. Hitting one stationary car to get it out of the way he worked his way up to the leading cars and then into 11th place finally crossing the finish line together with two other cars who were ninth and tenth and in the points and also the highest Yellow grade finisher.

“Considering the terrible visibility, track conditions and the position that I started from I am well happy where I finished” Dave said “Congratulations to our new World Champion Ollie Spencer and to second place Jelle Tesselaar from Holland and Tom Spencer who came in third”.

The meeting went on with three more heats and a final and Dave gained further places putting him in the points again.

Even with the bad weather a good crowd watched an entertaining program of racing with the V8 stockcars World Final being the main attraction along with the F1 stock car Season Shoot Out, 2L Saloon Stockcars and ORCi Ministox.

Work is now taking place to get the car ready for next meeting at Kings Lynne on Saturday 19thOctober at 5.30pm.
