Amelia Chrispin

A week to remember

Many thanks to Neil Chrispin for the following report on a busy week the for the “Pocket Rocket” and special thanks for the photos, credit Neil and Northern Tri.

On 20th July, Amelia travelled up to Hetton-le-Hole to take part in the Hetton Lyons Super Saturday Triathlon. This was the highest qualify field Amelia has raced against this year, as a lot of teams use this race as a National qualifying race, including teams from  Scotland, Wales, North West, South Central, East Midlands and Yorkshire.

Amelia had a strong open water swim and managed to leave T1 in the lead bike pack, for the 8km draft legal bike, with 3 other athletes. They were hotly pursued by a  larger pack of 17 other athletes.

The lead bike pack worked well together, and managed to hold off the chasers, the 4 of them leaving transition for the run section with a clear lead. Amelia and another athlete pushed the pace. leaving the other 2 athletes, and were well clear of the field as they headed towards the finish line. With 300m to go Amelia made her move and managed to cross the line in fantastic 1st place, a great result  in a quality field of athletes.

Saturday saw Amelia take part in the Future Outlaw in Nottingham. The event was for 11-15 year olds who would all race 200m open water, followed by a 5km bike and then a 1500m run. Amelia had a great race, leading from start to finish, and managed to come 1st out of all the girls and 3rd overall. She really enjoyed running down the same orange finish funnel the Outlaw athletes will finish on tomorrow.

Her last triathlon of they year will be the National IRC's, she will race in the individual and relay events on the 6th and 7th Sep.
