Amy chosen to represent England

As the indoor season comes to an end Amy Hunt pulls on the England vest again

We have received an from the English Indoor Championships  yesterday in which Newark’s Amy Hunt took part in the Under 20 women 60m races.

Going into the competition Amy was 4th fastest on paper based on pb times, with two athletes coming over from Eire, Ciara Neville and Molly Scott, being the favourites.

Amy had a relatively easy heat, got out the blocks well and eased down with 20m to go to save energy for later rounds.

In the semi-final, Amy had pre-race favourite Ciara Neville and matched the Irish champion stride for stride until easing down in the last 10 metres.

The final saw all of the pre-race favourites pitched against each other, with Amy given lane 8 due to her race times in the heat and semi being one of the slowest. A false start by the athlete in lane 7 unsettled the athletes and meant they
sat in their blocks a bit when the race finally got away. With no-one on her inside Amy struggled to get into the race but finished strongly in fourth place just 0.04s outside 3rd place.

Overall, a good set of hard races which was what was intended. Interestingly, Amy would have won her age group under 17 if she had entered that.

Due to Amy's performance she has now been selected to run for England Under 18 team in Cardiff this coming weekend, which will bring an end to the indoor season for her.
