Amy Hunt wins in London

Thanks to dad Pete for the following update;

Amy was injured during training in early November which took until mid-December to heal. Over Christmas time I ended up taking her to the track in order to start her come-back as Grantham AC were having a month off training over Christmas and New Year.

As part of the process to get her back running Amy has been working with Paul Farquharson at Spectrum Physiotherapy here in Newark with the aim to not only recover from the injury but to increase Amy’s flexibility and strength to aid here in her running. As Amy has not trained a great deal over winter we entered her in a low-key indoor competition on 14th January at Loughborough. We were all very nervous for her as she hadn’t had much run training in her legs but in the first race (60 metres) she was second, by 0.02s, to Meghan Beesley, the GB International 400m runner in a time just a fraction outside her pb and in the second race she equalled her pb and came first! This last weekend saw us go to Lee Valley and the prestigious London Indoor Games for Under 17 year olds. Amy had two races over 60 metres, finished first in both and spookily equalled her 60m pb (again) and was just outside it in the second race. Overall there were 91 women entered into the 60 metres in London of which Amy was the fastest overall.

Amy’s times in the 60 metres has seen her jump to the top of the UK rankings for Under 17 women; Amy has also moved up to the under 17 category.

The next competition Amy will be running in will be the 60 metres at the English Indoor Championships at Sheffield on 25th February.
