Arthur shines for Fernwood

Fernwood Sword Club

This weekend saw an excellent effort by Arthur Eakin, who came 9th from 24 in the U13 men's foil in the Leon Paul Junior Series at the Manchester Fencing Centre. Arthur is in the younger year of the competition, so this is a good result.

In the first poule, Arthur won 3 and lost 2 of  his matches. He was pleased to beat Wilfred Houston-Brown of Four of Clubs again, following a 10-8 victory in the BYCs a fortnight ago. A 5-3 win against the competent  (and year older) Michael Ramage of Salle Holyrood of Edinburgh was pleasing. Ramage beat Arthur 10-3 in the BYCs a year ago, which demonstrates Arthur's progress. Arthur also took 3 points off (year older) Bruno Winter of Paul Davies Fencing Academy in Hertfordshire - the last time they met, Arthur lost 0-5.

Arthur won 2 and lost 3 in the second round of poules. One loss was against Dominic Kiss of Salle Kiss in Manchester - he's a very strong fencer. Another positive was taking 3 points off Joshua Hemmings of Radcliffe Sword. Hemmings is a year older and has a strong height advantage - Arthur is closing in on him.

Arthur had a bye in L32. In L16 he came agonisingly close to beating Billy Levick of Sheffield Hallam (yet another year older fencer). In a nailbiter of a match, he lost 9-10. This was a really good result overall for Arthur.
