Big news for the Pocket Rocket

Amelia Chrispin

Last Sunday Amelia travelled to Salendine Nook on a windswept, sunny Yorkshire Moors to compete in the Holmfirth Junior Triathlon. The race was part of the Yorkshire Triathlon Series and also the last of the Yorkshire Regions National qualifiers.

Amelia had the 2nd fastest female 200m pool swim and quickly entered T1, which she left after picking up her bike 1st place in her heat.

She cycled well on the grassed 4km bike section maintaining her lead and left for the run looking strong. She had a solid run and after 1800m crossed the line 1st in her heat. Shortly afterwards she found out she had come 1st girl and 3rd overall out of 72 boys and girls.

She was presented with her first-place trophy by International GB Triathlete Mark Buckingham.

The result means after winning all six of the National Qualifying races in both the East Midland and Yorkshire regions Amelia was offered a place in both squads as the first-choice athlete.

After careful consideration, Amelia decided this year she would like to accept the Yorkshire Team’s kind invitation and race for them. She will therefore take on 35 of the UK’s best athletes, in her age group, in the National Inter-Regional Championships at British Triathlon’s U20’s Festival at Mallory Park, Bank Holiday Weekend at the end of August.
