Chuter Ede star gets a silver

It’s the nationals next for Joseph Monk

Newark Athletic Club Star Joseph Monk ran in the Nottinghamshire Schools Cross Country Championships at Wollaton today. Joseph was representing Newark and District schools in the Year 5/6 boys race after winning his qualifier race in Ollerton in November.

Joseph started steadily but after about 500 metres, he was comfortably part of a pack of three runners who trailed behind the lead boy. These three raced together for the remainder of the race until about 200 metres to go when Joseph started to lead the pack, putting him in 2nd place. Joseph was then overtaken with about 50 metres to go but he responded in the final seconds regaining his 2nd place position. A well deserved silver medal was presented to Joseph as he crossed the line. Joseph will now go onto represent Nottinghamshire in the National Finals in Loughborough at the end of March.

Chuter Ede had seven runners at the event representing Newark & Sherwood Schools, lister out for a full update on next week’s sports show.
