Arthur & Ethan were in action in the foil

Our keen younger fencers Arthur Eakin and Ethan Dakin were in action at the U13 men's foil Salle Holyrood (Edinburgh) Leon Paul Junior Series on Saturday. Following a preliminary seeding round, the boys unfortunately faced each other in the second poule, with Arthur coming out a 5-1 winner. Arthur had a clean sweep in the poule, winning all 4 matches taking him into the DE as 3rd seed. Ethan dropped another fight, against David Kelly of Dunblane Fencing Club, leaving him as 6th seed. Both boys cleaned up in L16, Arthur against Joshua Chapman and Ethan against Owen Griffiths of  Salle Holyrood. Unfortunately Arthur and Ethan were then pitted against each other L8. It was  a nerve racking match with Ethan squeaking through at 10-9. He then went on to take the bronze medal, losing 6-10 to the gold medallist Callum Penman of Salle Holyrood.

In university matches, James Rutherford again starred in all 3 weapons to help Nottingham Trent University through to the final of  the Midlands Conference Cup in a 125-124 victory over Warwick University 2nds.
