Festive fun at the Rugby Club

A large crowd gathered for the annual Newark Rugby Club Presidents Match

A deluge on Christmas night which left puddles on the touch lines failed to dampen the spirits of a large holiday crowd. They witnessed a high scoring try-fest; a credit to all the players as they overcame the gluey conditions to provide some exciting running rugby.

The exception was in the first half when the Newark side were foiled in their attempt to score a pushover try and were awarded a penalty try.

Newark and the President's XV traded tries and turned around 29-27.

The second half started with no less than four quick tries for Newark and it looked to be all over for the President's men.
However, they were not to be denied and fought their way back into contention.

Their extra pace in the backs started to show and the tries came quickly to establish a lead 53-64.

Newark fought their way back to a 4-point deficit but a final try gave the President's selection a deserved 60-67 win.

As ever, it was good to see so many 'old boys' back at Kelham Road as part of the Newark rugby family.

A very big thank you to all the players and to the officials who encouraged some very entertaining rugby.
