Great gold for Amelia

Our pocket rocket is number one

Great Gold for Amelia.

Today Amelia travelled to Wollaton Park in Nottingham to represent Newark AC in the final race, of a four race series, in the North Midlands XC League.

The North Midland XC League is open to all UKA affiliated clubs based in Notts, Derbys, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Staffordshire, South Yorkshire, Rutland, Northants & Cambs aged U11 to VET, so is a high standard race series with some very good athletes.

Amelia was competing in her first year of the U13G category and after three races was leading the table. She knew all she had to do was track her nearest rival, a good athlete from Derby, and be within four places of her to win the series.

The gun went off and as per usual the athletes set off at a frenetic pace with at tough 3km, 2 lap, course ahead of them. Amelia ran a mature race ignoring the other athletes and only concentrating on her position in relation to the Derby athlete.

With around 400m to go she realised she could ease up a little, as she could not be caught by the athlete behind and she was near enough to her rival to seal the title. She jogged over the line in 6th position to win the series title by 1 point. After the results had been ratified she was presented with a nice shiny trophy for her efforts. A fantastic result after four tough races.
