Grove Squash Club Season Update

Grove Squash Club Update

First month of the squash season - an update

" The Grove Squash Club 1st Team are finding life difficult after the first month of the new season in Nott's Div. 2. Without club captain Chris Gibbons they have lost their opening 2 games by a 3 -2 score line, the first a narrow 3-2 defeat to Lincoln Eastgate 3 with Wayne Hiatt and Steve Brown winning at 2 and 3 string respectively and the second to Nottingham University with Richard Speed and again Wayne Hiatt winning at 1 and 2 string. It is hoped that Chris Gibbons will return in the next few weeks to help the team back to winning ways.

The 2nd Team in Div. 3 have not fared much better but sit mid table after 3 games. The first game saw them lose 3-2 to David Lloyd West Bridgeford who currently sit top of the league with Paul Drury and Paul Burrell winning at 5 and 4 string. The followed this up with a 4-1 defeat away at Chilwell 1 with Paul Drury again winning at 5. The latest reversal came at home to Southwell 3 with number 1 string Ashly Brooks the only one managing to win.

In the Lincoln League thinks look a lot brighter as the team currently sit top of Div. 1 after 4 games winning 3 of them. The only defeat came against Gainsborough in the opening match 3-2 with Wayne Hiatt and Barry Saye winning their respective matches. This was followed up by a walk over against Lindum C who couldn't raise a team, a 4-1 win away at Dean's Leisure and a 5-0 romp at home to Methringham B. The high lights being Jamie Groden winning at 5 string against Dean's Leisure and Wayne Hiatt remaining unbeaten in all his three games so far.

The club are running Junior coaching sessions on Friday evenings for all ages starting at 5-40 at the Newark Leisure Centre and if anyone would like more details they can contact Paul Drury on 07814 006372".
