Grove Squash Clup update

Chris Gibbons leads the way

Latest news from the Grove Squash Club.

In division 2 of the Nottinghamshire Leagues a series of narrow defeats and a resounding 5-0 win have seen the Grove 1st team climb to forth in the table. The run has seen captain Chris Gibbons only lose once during the 5 match run. The highlights seeing veteran 2nd team players Paul Drury and Barrie Saye winning at Grantham in a 3-2 reversal and a 5-0 romp against Eastgate with wins for Gibbons, Wayne Hiatt, Richard Speed and Steve Brown and a walkover securing the points.

In division 3 the second team continue to struggle and lie at the foot of the table. Their recent matches have seen them beaten 3-2 in three out of their last four fixtures with Craig Drury winning 2 matches, Paul Burrell winning 3 and Barrie Saye picking up the victories. Their cause has not been helped by injuries and although they still have games in hand on most of their relegation rivals they need to start turning the narrow defeats in to victories soon if they are not going to be relegated.

In division 1 of the Lincoln league the team remain top despite losing their 2 out of their last 3 games. Two 3-2 defeats against Ruston G (Craig Drury & Steve Brown winning) and Gainsborough (Brown & Wayne Hiatt winning) sandwiched a fine 5-0 win against Ruston G with Hiatt, Brown, Ady Greenberry, Craig Drury and Paul Drury securing the points. The results mean only 7 points separate the top 3 in the race for the title.
