Inter counties cross country

Newark Athletic Club

The Intercounties is the prestige event of the cross country calendar where the best from each county or district in the UK race for honours. On the notoriously strength sapping Prestwold Hall course near Loughborough 16 Newark athletic club members were found representing the counties of Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.

Following her disappointment of having to drop out the recent National cross country championships Anna Smith (Notts) bounced back in style by finishing 4th in the u15 girls race narrowly missing a podium place. In the same race representing Lincs it was Lauren Owens (283) turn to earn bragging rights over her twin Tilly (287).

In the senior mens race Linton Taylor (Lincs) was 43rd and Oli Carrington (Notts) 189th.

In the senior ladies race Chloe Hubbard (Lincs) and Becky Gallop(Notts) had another tremendous battle. It was Chloe who came out on top finishing 121st to Beckys 134th.

The u20 mens race saw Thomas Hubbard (Lincs) in 103rd.

Max Cawthra (Lincs) finished a fine 76th in the u17mens race.

Amber Owens (Lincs)was forced to drop out of the u17womens race through illness but hopefully will be recovered by next weekend to race in the English schools championships and finish her season in style. Her club mates Laura Bates finished 126th and Laura Burles 210th.
