Day one in the run up to a new football season.
All our local teams played their first pre-season warm up matches. First out of the traps were Southwell City with a Friday evening trip to Keyworth, manager Jonny Upton used the match to give no less than twenty-players a run out and not surprisingly the match ended in a draw.
A crowd of 75 saw Newark & Sherwood finally return to Balderton, the club now bereft of its pyramid status beat RHP two-one.
Newark Town had young goalkeeper Haydon MacCarthy to thank as they overcame Harrowby United at the YMCA. Having only made five appearances in two seasons with the club it looks, on this performance at least, he is ready to claim the number one shirt. Town’s winning goal came three minutes from the end from Harvey Grice.
The match was the first appearance in light blue of local boys Toby and Luke White, both making the move after five seasons with Newark & Sherwood United.
its all about gaining fitness and getting to know your teammates, but it’s still nice to record a victory.
