Mud, mud, glorious mud

Newark Striders

The recent rain created some very muddy conditions for this year's Belvoir Challenge but there was a good turnout of Striders. As usual, there was lots of lovely cake to fuel and cheer the competitors around the course on a breezy Saturday.

In the 26 mile event Ruth Mountstevens was first to finish with a very strong performance and a finishing time of 6:01:58. Jason Cobb was next with 7:14:42 then Tom Jordan 7:57:28, Philippa Clarke 7:57:33, Andy Scott 7:57:37 and Simon Palmer 7:57:41. The group of Stacey Atkins, Steve Padgett, Niceeta Padgett and Karen Illsley was next to finish, 8:19:45 for Stacey, Steve 8:20:02, Niceeta 8:20:07 and Karen 8:20:30.

Emma Gilbert was first Strider in the 15 mile event, finishing with a time of 3:15:01 followed by Ben Barnard 4:31:22, Sarah-Jane Cobb 5:05:30 and Charlotte Palmer 5:06:13. Gemma Latham crossed the line in 5:16:34, Kath Scott 5:17:22, Anthea Moisey 5:17:39 and Lynne Boby 5:17:57.

Newark Parkrun was cancelled but we took part at East Park, Doddington and Braunstone.

On to Sunday and to the capital where Nige Driscoll, Cate Driscoll and Graham Welsh ran the Vitality Big Half with Kenenisa Bekele and 17000 others. The weather and course were great and all three would definitely do the event again. 1:38:21 for Nige, 1:47:49 for Cate and 1:49:40 for Graham.

Well done to all who ran this weekend and club congratulations to Jacqui Jackson whose hard work has been rewarded as she becomes a qualified coach.
