Newark Athletic Club

A busy weekend for the young runners

It was a busy weekend for the Newark Athletic Club youngsters.

The first Mini League Track and Field event on Saturday saw a very windy and wet day in Bingham, plus a few hail storms added in for good measure. But that didn’t stop our 19 youngsters from working their socks off and pulling some great performances out of the bag.

We had 5 Under 11 boys, Cameron Shivas, Charlie Ashley, Alfie Fell, Archie Rogers, and Tom Pountney. The latter two making their track debuts.

Charlie ran a fabulous race in the 600m to claim 1stplace, with at least a 20m lead. A big well done to Alfie for trying out the high jump, an event he had never done before but looked like a natural!

In the U13 girls we had 6 competitors, Zoe Smith, Elsa Broadberry, Jasmine Braithwaite, Emily Kemp, Isabella Shand, and Isabel Darch.

Zoe comfortably won her 70m hurdles and just pipped another girl on the line of her 200m to gain another 1stplace. Her time of 28.8 is now only 0.4 seconds off the club record for this age group. Jasmine ran a well paced 1200m, very comfortably. Emily impressed in the sprints- 100m and 200m. Ones to watch!

For the U13 boys we had Josh Clee, Ethan Lincoln, Evan Rogers, Connor Williams, and Hayden Williams.

Josh kept with the field in the 1500m and kicked on with 250m to go, sprinting down the home straight to earn 2nd place. Having just moved up to this age group, Connor and Hayden also represented us in this event, competing against athletes at least a year older than them.

In the U15s group we had Ellie Parker, George Edwards and Alfie Thurlby, all making their track debut.

Ellie competed in the 100m, Alfie also in the 100m and George in the 1500m. To say these athletes made their track debut in awful weather conditions, they all kept their cool and took everything in their stride.

Four of the u20s travelled over to Tipton on Sunday to join with Worksop and Retford for an East Notts team at the YDL upper match
