Newark Athletic Clubs busy weekend

The Presidents official report

The Midland cross country champs were for the second year running held at Prestwold Hall. The athletes had to negotiate an undulating course with sticky mud underfoot.

 

Star of the afternoon was Anna Smith who won the u15 girls title the first Newark winner at the championships since the 1980s and backed up by Tilly Owens 48th, Lauren Owens 60th and Maisie Archer Dytch 73rd the girls finished 6th team in the 4 to score format.

 

In the u13 girls Amelia Chrispin finished 23rd, Alice Gibbs 95th and Evie White 103rd

In the u20 womens race Ellie White finished 11th

 

The u17 women with only 3 to score the trio of Amber Owens 4th, Laura Bates 18th and Eleanor Miller 51st were 6th

 

It was a welcome return to competition after a series of niggling injuries for Chloe Hubbard who finished 44th in the senior womens race

 

Lewis Gillooley Rodgers was our only runner in the u13 boys finishing 62nd

 

Ben Smith finished 12th in the u15 boys race

 

Max Cawthra finished 18th in u17m and Thomas Hubbard was 23rd in the u20 mens

 

The senior men had a really good afternoon overcoming the fact that the course which was supposed to be 12k turn out to be 15k. Linton Taylor finished 11th the best ever placing by a Newark athlete he was followed home by Oli Carrington 33rd (well inside anything a senior has recorded previously) Martin Waite 95th, Tim Bagguley 131st, Craig Renton 237th and Gareth Owens 238. Still awaiting the team result

 

 

We don’t just do cross country during the winter

Big well done to Ricky Richmond who finished Third in the U20's 400m race, at Sheffield Indoor open today, with a time of 54.57sec. He also got a new PB of 24.86sec in the 200m coming in 4th. Luke Sayer just missed out on a medal coming 4th place in the U17's 400m with a massive new PB, knocking 3 seconds off, with 56.53sec. Luke also got a new PB of 9.26m in the shot getting a silver medal.
